JEFFERSONVILLE - Avery, Dorothy Beams, 80, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at her home.
Dorothy was a graduate of Indiana University Southeast Nursing School and was a retired R.N. from Methodist Evangelical Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville for 21 years.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Michael Avery and his wife, Kathy; daughter, Jan Empson and her husband, Sam; four granddaughters, Jennifer Scroggins (Brian), Kelly Avery, Sarah Empson and Lauren Empson; great-grandchildren, Maycy and Parker Scroggins; and nieces, Brenda Nalley (Tom), Cathy Cannon (Eddie) and Cassie Montgomery.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Avery; parents, Jesse and Delcena Beams; sister, Mary Francis Lee; and longtime friend, Arlyn Brown.
Funeral services will be held at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel in Jeffersonville at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel in Jeffersonville and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
